What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peel treatments, also referred to as chemexfoliation, remove the outer layers of the skin to improve overall skin function and enhance the appearance. Chemical peels work by stimulating skin cell renewal to regenerate a healthier outer layer of the skin. Chemical peels, even superficial ones, are very effective against sun-damaged skin, acne, and pigmentations as a stand-alone treatment or as part of a combination of aesthetic procedures.

How does it work?

Chemical peels remove the outer skin layers through a process called ‘keratolysis’. Keratolysis means ‘the loosening and shedding of the outer layer of the skin, which may occur normally by exfoliation or induced chemically in which the skin is shed at periodic intervals’.

Chemical peel agents, such as glycolic and salicylic acids, are applied on the surface of the skin and penetrate through the skin layers to break up skin cells, causing the outer layer of skin cells to ‘fall off’ or peel. This causes the skin to renew itself to achieve a more even tone and a radiant complexion.

Types of chemical peels we offer

At Simplistiq, we offer two options of chemical peels

1. Lunch menu Chemi Peel+

The Chemi Peel+ contains 30% glycolic acid, 3% lactic acid and 3% salicylic acid. This unique peel developed by our clinic also contains aloe vera extract which is refreshing and has potent antioxidant properties.

The combination of acids which is contained in the Chemi Peel+ accelerates the exfoliation of dead skin cells, reduces appearance of acne, blackheads and whiteheads, diminishes superficial sun damage, and also reduces the appearance of fine lines.

This quick and effective peel will only take 15 – 20 minutes to administer and is the ideal procedure to refresh and renew the skin during the lunch break hour.

2. Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

Obagi Medical Products, Inc., is a global specialty pharmaceutical company founded by leading skin care experts in 1988. Dr. Obagi, head of Obagi Skin Health Institue, originally conceived and brought to market what would become the world’s most recognised brands of physician dispensed skincare products – the original Obagi Nu-Derm® and Obagi Blue Peel® kit.

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a chemical peel that provides a glow to the skin, high patient satisfaction, and lasting results. The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance contains 20% salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid, combined with calming agent, liquorice root and willow bark.  Due to the higher content of salicylic acid, the Blue Peel Radiance is also particularly effective against acne.

Blue Peel Radiance effectively exfoliates the uppermost damaged skin layers and leaves your skin fresh, renewed, and radiant.

Will the treatment be painful?

Patients undergoing chemical peels procedures usually feel a tingling, stinging sensation due to the acid the peel is applied. However, this sensation is short-lived and last about 30 seconds.

Will there be downtime?

The Chemi Peel+ has absolutely no downtime, and therefore perfect for a lunch time procedure. Very mild redness to the skin might be observed and last for 15 minutes after the procedure.

The Blue Peel Radiance caused the skin to flake minimally for up to 3 days. After 3 days, the flaking will stop and reveal a much more radiant and even complexion.
